Of course every neighborhood in Lisbon hosts their own arraial (street party) that runs half (if not the whole) of June, and while most are fun for the whole family in the early hours, things can get a little rowdy the later it gets. Of course, this varies wildly by neighborhood, but regardless, planning ahead is essential to get the most out of the holiday. Here are a few things that came across our radar that could help you get ahead of things this year.

June 7 to 29, 20h: Arraial dos Combatentes

Organized by the Os Combatentes Dramatic and School Group, this family party is perfect for kids, complete with inflatable bouncy houses and foosball tables. Space is limited at 150 seats, so you must call +351 965 171 764 to make a reservation. Expect traditional caldo verde soup, steaks, chouriço, and grilled sardines (obviously), and a full menu for vegetarians and vegans alike, which is hard to come by at this time of year! Bring your little ones, pump them full of cotton candy, dance to some live music, and cheers to the saints. The legendary pimba frontman Quim Barreiros will play on June 7th, and on the 15th, shake your stuff to hits from the '80s and '90s with Nuno Santos. The best part? Entry is free.

June 8, 10h: Historical Boats at Cais das Colunas

For something a little more leisurely (and without the pimba music) check out the historical Tagus-style boats all in one spot at Cais das Colunas celebrating “Tagus Navy Day.” Definitely bring your camera to catch some cute snaps.

June 8 and 10: Campolide Arraial

Meanwhile, in Campolide, you’ll find a series of parties planned until the 15th of June. Most of them start late, but the best ones for kids are on Saturday, June 8 at 15h: The Arraial TVI, and Monday, June 10 at 19h featuring the dancing and singing Arte Musica group.

June 12, 21h: The Santo António Parade

Post up early on Avenida Liberdade and watch the most famous of the festival traditions in progress: The Marchas Populares, with all of Lisbon's neighborhoods in a marching dance-off to with the best in show. Expect lots of drums, crazy costumes, and cheering crowds. The kids will love it!
